forawhilenow.I’vealwaysknownsinceIwasyoungthatIwantedtopursuefootball,sowhentheme
cametoplayhighschoolfootball,Iwasreadytoworkhardatit.”Warnerplayedbothsidesoftheball
whileatMissionHills,andhehasbeendoingsosincehewasakid.“InPopWarner,Iplayeddefensiveend,
alilebitofrunningback,corner,andatwidereceiver.”Warnerstartedplayingbasketballaroundthe
samemeashestartedplayingfootball.“Iwaspreygoodatbasketballtoo.Iplayedbothmyfreshmen
andsophomoreyears,butaerthatIdecidedthatIwantedtoconcentratejustonfootball.”Warneralso
parcipatedintrackmakingittoCIFFinalsintheLongJump,hisbestjumprightat22feet.Hisathlec
abilityisfreakish,andWarnersllhasnotreachedhisuppermostpotenal.

BeingatalentedfootballplayerrunsinthefamilyfortheWarner’sasTroy’sbrotherFredheldoverten
Divsion1scholarshipoersduringhisfootballcareeratMissionHillsandwasnamedtheAllSanDiego
SeconDefensivePlayeroftheyearin2013.NamedtotheCalHiSportsAllStateFirstteamduringthat
sameseason,FredlikeTroywasafourstarprospectandrecruitedbythelikesofArizona,CalNebraska,
USC,Utah,andWashington.UlmatelydecidingtoconnuehisplayingdaysatBYU,Fredishavingsuccess
andTroysayshehasalwaystakennoce.“WhenIwasyoungerIwouldfollowinmybrother’sfootsteps.
Heplayedfootball,soIplayedfootballbecauseIreallywantedtobelikehim.Seeinghimdowellinhigh
schoolmademewanttodoevenbeer.Itwasalwaysacompe

vemewithmeandhim.”Warner’sfa

therFredSr.alsoplayedfootballasaWR/DBduringtheearly90’s.“MydadactuallyplayedforOceanside
whenhewasinhighschool;healwaysgivesmewordsofwisdom,andkeepsmeontrack.”

WarnercreditshismomLauraasbeingthekeytohisrecruingsuccess.“Mymomhasbeenwithme
throughoutthewholeprocess,she’sdoneeverythingforme…she’stakenmetoallmytrainingevents,and
youknowshe’sbeenarealtrooper.She’salsobeenateverygameandjustmakingsureI’montopofall
mygradesinschoolandgiving100percentontheeldandinpracce.She’sreallybeenabigfactorinmy
